Securing Your Digital Assets
All Data

Secure 128 bit SSL
communication
All communication between zuuBackup's servers and your computer are
transported in a 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) channel. Although
all your backup files travel over the Internet, eavesdroppers have no
knowledge of what has been exchanged.
Backups are securely encrypted
All
your files are first compressed and encrypted with your defined
encrypting key before being sent to zuuBackup's servers. Only you have
the key to unlock the data. To everyone else, your data appears to
contain nothing more than random, unintelligible content.
Do not lose your encryption
key
The
encryption key used to encrypt your files resides only on your computer
and is known only to you. It is never transmitted across the Internet.
If this key is lost, backup files cannot be recovered. zuuBackup can
view the names of files you store on our backup server, but we have no
knowledge of or access to the content of any of the files and cannot
recover this information.
Like
your bank pin
number, please make sure you keep a note of your encryption key in a
safe place. If lost you will never be able to recover your backup
files.
The
best encryption algorithm is used
Currently,
the algorithm that we are using to encrypt your files is 128-bit
Twofish. It is a block cipher designed by Counterpane Labs and was also
one of the five Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) finalists chosen by
The National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST). It is subject
to frequent public reviews, and no known attack against this algorithm
has ever been reported.
8.77
x 1017 years to crack 128-bit encryption
A 128-bit key size has around 3.4 x 1038 possible
combinations. Even with the most powerful super computer, it would take
8.77 x 1017 years
to test all possible combinations. To manually check every combination
on this encryption it would take 876,530,835,323,573,935
years.
Restrict
access to data by IP address
You
can also restrict access to your backup files from a set of IP
addresses you define. If someone tries to access your data from an IP
address not on your predefined list, their access is denied. This
additional security ensures backup files are not accessible from all
locations, even if the username and password are known.
Your data is stored on
servers at
Rackspace hosting centres.
zuuBackup stores your backup data at the a Rackspace secure hosting facility.
Datacentre
Infrastructure
Security
at the data centre includes traditional locks, access
controls and biometric surveillence systems. Robust fire suppression,
HVAC, power feeds, hot-swappable servers and routers are available in
the event of an outage. Background checks and certifications ensure the
integrity of all personnel.
Datacentre
Network
The hosting centre's Cisco Powered Network, built on hardened routers
and audited by
Cisco, ensures maximum security protection. The network incorporates a
patented Intrusion Detection System to protect against external
threats. Firewalls are managed by security specialists and deployed in
a “private IP” space, while customer servers and
routers are segregated
in Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN). Network security features also
include multi-level privileges, OS lockdowns, centralised
authentication and device change logs.
Datacentre
Certified Engineers and Security Teams
To
ensure a fast response to a security event, qualified personnel are
available 24x7x365 and have earned Cisco
Certified Security Professional, Certified Information System Security
Professional and other security certifications.
